  1. This 5-by-7-inch letterpress card, printed on Crane’s Lettra stock Pearl White color,  is both time capsule and future family heirloom. It’s the perfect gift for new parents who can fill in the going babysitter rate as well as who was standing next to them in their first picture taken by ‘the Bean’ all while celebrating the anniversary of the architectural treasure that is the Glessner House. The card is a badge of Windy City pedigree for the littles and an instant keepsake for Mom and Dad.Send one to new parents roiling in the magical mystery (and sleepless nights) of a newborn!

  3. If you haven’t already been following Chicago’s in-progress small-batch craft brewery Pipeworks Brewing Co., you’re going to be hearing a lot about this duo in 2012 as they begin production at their location on Western Avenue. Donors who are helping Pipeworks get off the ground will be rewarded generously. My husband’s contribution has been label and coupon artwork that donors and future customers can enjoy. If you’re looking for something DIY, meaningful and let’s face it, DELICIOUS, to back, this is your cause! Cheers to a successful 2012 for the Pipeworks guys!

  4. Got my mini haul the other day from Gapers Block (the best Chicago webzine around): an anniversary party poster for Ollie’s new big boy room that I’ve been eying for years, plus new star tees for the hubby and me. They threw in a coupla stickers. Thanks, guys! Check out all of the goodies in the estore!

  6. “(Skip to :46) This is what being Up All Night in Chicago was like back in 1947: “Fantastic” cape dancing, aged white dudes with white beards toasting each other… but wait until the three minute mark—the outfits of the dancing girls of “exotic” Chez Paree—rib-high gold lame pants with baby pink puffy bunny tails attached at random, the off the shoulder top with x-treme ruffles, wee berets—are really amazing. What if that was your job? To dress like that and dance like a sea monkey while someone roped you like a calf with a long length of ribbon. This is what passed for wild nightlife here in Chicago sixty years ago! How stoked would you be if you went to see a band and there was a dancing horse (7:03) performing as well? You can’t say that old timey people didn’t know how to party.” —Jessica H., Chicago author of “The Girls’ Guide to Rocking”

  9. True, I wasn’t there. I wasn’t even born yet when punk first exploded in Chicago (always kvetching about coming of age in the wrong decade). Cred for hosting an Effigies/M.O.T.O show in 2008 and partying with geezer punks all night?
Either way, we can all be there now with Joe Losurdo and Christina Tillman’s DVD “You Weren’t There” – chronicling Chicago’s punk heyday from ’77-’84.
On a related note, check out Marie Kanger-Born’s Chicago Punk Pix site and new book “Confessions Of A Chicago Punk Bystander.” Yeah. She was definitely there.
